The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for November 2, 1994:
Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.
Boston University once again takes HOCKEY-L's top spot, but Michigan State's
tie against Illinois-Chicago drops the Spartans to third, with Minnesota
moving into the second spot. The Gophers, off a weekend sweep of Wisconsin,
garnered nearly as many first-place votes as BU did. On the flip side,
Michigan's split at Ferris State caused the Wolverines to slide six places,
into a tie for eleventh.
HOCKEY-L already seems to have built a consensus of who the top 12 teams
are, as there is a huge 81-point gap between #12 (or the tie for #11) and
#13. There is little agreement on who the last three teams in the Top 15
are; note the relatively large number of 13 "others receiving votes."

Dropped out of Top 15: St. Cloud (#13 last week)
A check of the East-West results (an even split this week) shows an argument
developing as to who the top team is. BU has the edge in the East, but
Minnesota ties the Terriers among Western voters and has more first-place
votes. A little farther down, Lake Superior has gained significantly more
favor in the West than in the East after sweeping Notre Dame, while the
Easterners are giving Northeastern quite a bit more backing. Two oddities
of note: Harvard got more points from the West than the East, while the
reverse was true for Bowling Green.

Here's a composite of the HOCKEY-L poll and the four media polls that were
posted this week. True to form, the Eastern-based polls (WMEB and Troy
Record) had Boston University ranked #1, while the Western ones (College
Hockey USA and WMPL) gave Minnesota the top spot. And the HOCKEY-L poll
breaks the tie :-)
