I'd like to put in my $.02 as one BU fan who thinks that Maine
has been shafted. Let's step back from all this moralistic
lecturing about punishing them to "send a message". What was
this horrible crime that must be deterred at all cost?
They mistakenly told an otherwise eligible grad student with
a fine academic record that he would remain eligible if he
carried 6 credits when it ought to have been 8.
Let's get real, guys. This does not make them UNLV.
It was a small error that has already cost them a lot of
humiliation and bad press. I'll bet it is also wrecking havoc
with their recruiting since what hot prospect wants to take
a chance that there will be more over-reaction and he won't
get to play post-season.
I would much prefer to see Maine in the HE playoffs. Now I fully
expect BU to make the NCAAs (I agree with Mike they showed class
in reinstating Tardif so I won't use my usual NC$$) regardless of
the HE playoff based on their rating and record. Maine on the
other hand is on the bubble - let them go out and play to try
and earn a chance to defend their title. That coach, those players,
that school, and our entire sport deserve the chance to see that effort.
