Jim asked about Canadian University hockey. Here's the deal...

They DO play Canadian University hockey. The organization up there
is called the CIAU (Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union). Canadian
University hockey is not as popular up there because most of the
best hockey players go through the junior system to try to get to
the NHL or minor leagues.

They do NOT offer scholarships. In fact, I think most Canadian U's
are two year schools but don't quote me on that. American colleges
often play Canadian U's in early season exhibitions. For example,
Cornell played Western Ontario, Yale played McGill (Montreal) and
Maine played Acadia and Brown played New Brunswick just to name a
FEW.

American college hockey is the highest amateur hockey in the US. But
the reason Canadian U hockey is not as popular in Canada is because
junior hockey is the higest level of amateur hockey there.
