Clarkson stopped Cornell, 6-3 in Potsdam tonight. Clarkson flew out to
a 4-0 lead but they sat back and let Cornell score 3 straight goals
before putting the Big Red away.

The first period was scoreless. Clarkson had numerous chances, outshootin
the Big Red, 13-4. But national save % leader Andy Bandurski stymied the
Golden Knights. Early in the second period, Clarkson took a 1-0 lead when
Dave Seitz poked the rebound of a Kevin Murphy shot past Bandurski. With
about 8 1/2 minutes left in the second, Steve Palmer broke down one on
one. When he tried to split the defense, the Cornell blueliner poked the
puck away but Craig Conroy picked up the pick and wristed it past Bandurski
on the stick side. About a minute and a half later, Todd White tipped
home a centering pass from Murphy for a 3-0 lead. Some 30 seconds later,
Patrice Robitaille made it 4-0 forcing Bandurski from the game. With the 3 goals
in less than 2 minutes, Clarkson seemed to have
control of the game. Instead of playing with the lead like they did
against Vermont and Colgate, they nearly reverted to their old selves and
sat on the lead. Shaun Hannah scored a power play goal for the Big Red
late in the second. Clarkson goalie Jason Currie had made 3 straight
saves in close but the puck squrited to Hannah on the other side and
he poked it home.

Seconds into the final period, Geoff Bumstead picked up a puck behind the
net and the Clarkson defense let him walk in front and put one past Currie.
A few minutes later, Bumstead made it 4-3 on an almost identical play. Both
teams had several good chances but Currie and Cornell goalie Eddy Skazyk
played well. Finally, Clarkson put it away when Robitaille took a pass on
a 2-on-1 and snapped it past Skazyk. Jean Francois Houle added an empty netter
for the final margin of victory.

Clarkson's line of Murphy-Seitz-White had a stellar performance, putting
up two goals and some excellent forechecking. So did Patrice Robitaille
who also forechecked well in addition to his pair of goals. Geoff Bumstead
was quite the pest for Cornell.

Clarkson takes its five game unbeaten streak to RPI and Union next
weekend.

THREE STARS
1) Kevin Murphy, Clarkson
2) Patrice Robitaille, Clarkson
3) Geoff Bumstead, Cornell

Colgate was leading St Lawrence, 6-2, in the third period.
