> Joe Nieuwendyk, the star from Cornell who was the
NHL rookie of the year in 1989

Nieuwendyk won the Calder Trophy in 1988. He
played for Cornell from 1985-87, and was a first team
All-American and ECAC player of the year in 1987. He
left Cornell after the season of his Junior year and
went directly to Calgary, where he played the last few
games and the playoffs in 1987.

Joe has been Captain of the Flames since 1992. Good
guy, and a credit to his school.
