In one of their hardest-working efforts of the season, the Clarkson
Golden Knights defeated Yale by a 7-4 score in Potsdam. The visitors stunned
the crowd by scoring only 7 seconds into the first period. Clarkson then
kept the puck in Yale's end for most of the next few minutes before giving
Yale a trio of power plays in succession. On the third the Elis scored,
though Clarkson still was working hard and looking like the better team.
The Knights finally were given a power play and this year's scoring star
Marko Tuomainen put them on the board. He scored again toward the end of
the period to tie the score. Three Clarkson goals in a second period which
they totally dominated seemed to put them in command. In the game's last ten
minutes, though, the Knights seemed to fall apart somewhat despite all their
fine efforts earlier. Yale was trying to draw penalties and succeeded; they
quickly scored a power-play goal. After the Knights killed off yet another
penalty soon after, Yale scored an even strength goal and pulled their goalie
hoping to tie in the last minute. They had a couple of good chances but
Robataille and Conroy scored empty-net goals to close out the win for Clarkson.
The game was very hard-hitting, with a large and vocal crowd. The team
and fans seem primed for a strong home-stretch run by the Golden Knights.
Third period updates had St. Lawrence tied with Princeton, Brown tied
with Vermont, and Dartmouth up 4-2 over Harvard (go Big Green!). So far
it's a pretty exciting weekend in the ECAC!!
