I got this off the UPI News Wire. This is good news not only for Women's
Hockey but for College Hockey in general.

CENTERVILLE, Mass. (UPI) -- The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Wednesday unveiled the nation's first intercollegiate women's ice hockey
league and announced the 12 teams will begin play in the 1993-94 season.
The top eight finishers in the ECAC Women's Ice Hockey League will
qualify for a post-season tournament, organization officials announced.
The league replaces an informal 15-team conference of nine Division I
and six Division III schools, which held their own respective division
tournaments at the end of the regular season.
The members of the new league are Brown, Colby, Cornell, Dartmouth,
Harvard, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Princeton, Providence, the
Rochester Institute of Technology, St. Lawrence and Yale.
The ECAC said it would discontinue its Division III women's
tournament after this season.
``This league is another important step in the development of women's
ice hockey in this country,'' said ECAC Hockey executive director Joe
Bertagna.
``The common schedule, with a tournament based on standings, provides
a familiar structure for players, coaches and all who follow the women's
game,'' Bertagna said.
