ECAC League Championship quarterfinals:
03/07/98 Harvard at New Hampshire NC 7:00
03/07/98 Princeton at Northeastern NC 1:30
03/07/98 Providence at Dartmouth NC 2:00
03/07/98 Cornell at Brown NC 7:00

#1 New Hampshire over #8 Harvard
The UNH Wildcats, the League titlist, blitzed the Harvard Crimson twice in
the regular season: 6-3, 1-7. Since I fully expect UNH to do the double,
if not the treble, I believe the Wildcats will roll over Harvard. The
Crimson would need to get a couple of early goals and knock New Hampshire
into a tentative game to win. Frankly, UNH can win this quarterfinal in
so many different ways, I can not see them missing the final four.

#2 Northeastern over #7 Princeton
The NU Huskies defeated the Tigers of Princeton 5-7 on the road, and were
tied at Matthews last Sunday 3-3. The Tigers would need to repeat their
recent performance and get some quick break goals. Princeton would also
need to improve it's defensive marking and breakout plays if they are to
advance. Northeastern should use their skating edge more intelligently.
They need better movement off the puck and preceptive passing to go
through the Tigers. I look for the Huskies to hit the jets and make the
finals at home.

#3 Dartmouth over #6 Providence
The Dartmouth College Big Green beat the Providence College Friars twice:
4-1, 2-3. PC has a long tradition of being in the ECAC finals and that
experience could help them in this huge event. DC has some of the best
talent in the league, a superb system and I think can beat anyone in the
ECAC. If Big Green turns it on, it will be extremely difficult for
Providence to make the semifinals.

#5 Cornell over #4 Brown
The Brown Bears and Big Red of Cornell split their contests, each winning
on the road: 0-3, 1-4. On paper, these two match up splendidly, and the
result could be the best quarterfinal draw. Bruno has been coming on
strong recently and has pulled off some impressive victories. They also
have more experience in the play-offs and know what it takes to win.
However, Cornell is a team that has been trying to break through and make
the big time for a number of years. They should be hungry. Big Red is
knocking on the door, and they've got a box of Eskimo pies!
