Lest college hockey feel slighted by having a top talent (top recruit in the
nation) passing on the college game, we should mention that academics was an
issue, and Gomez had not qualified academically to play next year anyway.
 Further, the Hockey News lists Gomez as one of the top 10 picks for the 1998
draft, so his longevity at CC would also have been an issue.
