Oh boy, I was hoping no one would bring this up. Two UMD hockey players
are under investigation in a first degree sexual assault case on the UMD
campus. The incident occurred on 3/26/95 in the early AM (1:00) A
search warrant was issued on 3/31/95 for samples necessary to complete a
"B.C.A. sexual assault evidence collection kit". As of right now,
charges have not been filed and news reports in Duluth are pretty quiet
on the names. The police report was printed in the "UMD Statesman"
(School paper, and no, not all of it, the names were deleted, and the
details were thankfully left out.) and the report is a little
contradictory. It first says the victim's roommates were out of town,
and then it says that when the accused left, the victim's roommate was
walking in and saw them walking away 'at a quick pace'. Campus police
sound like they're ready to lock these guys up. The captain of the campus
police has a daughter at UMD and is probably a little frightened by the
whole thing, which is understandable.
