BU won the 43rd Beanpot Tournament with a 5-1 win over BC. Ken Rausch
scored twice and was named an unlikely MVP winner (unlikely because
not many would have thought it before the games). BU goalie Derek
Herlofsky was the winner of the Eberly Trophy for goaltending.

The win was a costly one, however. Forward Jay Pandolfo suffered a
bad cut to his hand as he tried to handpass the puck out of the corner
while missing a glove, and he seemed to be cut by a skate. He
immediately rushed to the bench and without getting graphic, you could
see that it wasn't good. He did not return and was later seen in
street clothes with his hand heavily bandaged.

Mike Grier also appeared to have twisted an ankle late in the game,
and he was clearly favoring the ankle during the on-ice celebration
afterwards.

If anyone knows more about the status of Pandolfo and Grier, please
post. These are two players who are very key to BU's hopes.

In the consolation, Northeastern knocked off Harvard 4-2 despite being
outshot 24-16. This was a game that was bound to mean a lot to both
teams' NC$$ tourney bid hopes, yet Harvard coach Ronn Tomassoni made
an interesting move in choosing to play little-used senior Steve
Hermsdorf in net. The game was scoreless after one, but NU scored
four goals in the second and at one point had four goals on ten shots
for the game. Hermsdorf did not look good on at least one of the NU
goals, perhaps two (I missed one that some folks thought was bad).

Stat of the week as provided by Maine sports info:

Entering the Merrimack game Sunday, Maine backup goalie Blair Marsh
had gone 112:00 without allowing a goal. He has played 110:16
scoreless minutes this year over 8 appearances. Marsh is closing in
on the school record for scoreless minutes, 130:38 held by Garth Snow.
Snow did that in three straight games and 8 days.

Since playing in Maine's 4-3 loss to BU on 3/12/94 in the HE
quarterfinals, Marsh has gone 337 days without allowing a goal (as of
Sunday, and at least 13 more days will be added to that since Maine
does not play again until 2/25). Marsh did not appear in Maine's 3-2
win over Merrimack.

This season, Marsh has appeared against (saves in parentheses): St
Cloud (3), Acadia (1), BC (0), SLU (6), NU (2), UMA (8), UML (1), and
UMA (8). That gives him 29 saves over 110:16, a save% of 1.000 and a
GAA of 0.00.
