Friday's USA today had an article, "ECAC Scoring Big vs. Hockey East," by
Kevin Allen.  It included brief information about all 4 Division I
leagues, including a mention of Massachusetts-Lowell forward Greg Bullock
being named Hockey East Player of the Week and a quote from Ron Mason,
"Bowling Green is definitely legitimate."
 
Information about various teams:
 
ECAC: ECAC teams record 5 more wins against HE opponents. Brown beat
Harvest 4-3. Yale beat previously unbeaten Northeastern 4-2 (Coach Tim
Taylor has returned from the U.S. Olympic Team). Northeastern's coach is
Ben Smith was was Taylor's assistant at Yale.  Yale has players from 5
countries - the U.S., Canada, Yugoslavia, Finland and Sweden.
 
HE: Mass.-Lowell player Greg Bullock got 5 goals and 6 assists in 2 wins
against BU (9-7 and 8-7). Gave brief info about the shootouts.  Bullock
is leading HE with 15 points in 5 games.
 
CCHA: Michigan State beat BGSU 7-4.  jSaid BG was a surprise this season
(this is where they put the strange quote: "Bowling Green is definitely
legitimate."
 
WCHA: St CFloud State was picked #1 in the preseason coahces poll, but
they were beaten 5-3 and 5-2 by Minnesota.  Minnesota is #1 in the
polls.  Minnesota D Dan Trebil leads the team in scoring with 1 goal and
12 assists.
 
Other news:  Maine is 5-0-2, including 2-0-2 in HE, despite the
distraction of an NCAA investigation.  Princeton freshman Casson Masters
had 2 goals in his first college game.  Princeton defeated
SUNY-Plattsburgh 4-3.  BGSU's Brian Holzinger leads the CCHA with 7 goals
and 8 assists in 6 games.
 
As you can see, there wasn't anything that was new to hockey-l
subscsribers, but it was nice to see some coverage of college hockey in
USA Today.  The article has a small photo of Yale coach Tim Taylor.
