I have been Leach's housemate for the past school year, and I knew of the
move before anyone else. I think that this will be a pretty good blow to
the MTU hockey program. I am a firm believer that the recent success of
the program is directly related to the recruiting abilities of Mark Leach
(not a paersonal bias). As far as I am concerned, BC is getting the top
recruiter in college hockey. Leach spent about 200-230 days per year on
the road during the last few seasons, traveling well over 100,000 miles per
year. This may be due to the fact that MTU isn't the easiest school to
recruit for. We have one of the finest facilities in the nation, but we
also have some of the hardest admissions standards. It wasn't easy for
Leach to leave MTU, but the personal gains of being with his family was too
much to turn down. Leach is a great guy, and he will be a big assest for
the BC hockey program.
