rec.sport.hockey, also called r.s.h., is one of many hundreds of
newsgroups on Usenet news (aka NetNews).  These newsgroups are not
mailing lists, but more of a bulletin board-like system where you use a
"news reader" to view recent articles.  Contact your system
administrator to see if access is possible for you.
 
HOCKEY-L history buffs should know that several years ago Mike Machnik
started "College_Hockey" in part because r.s.h.  was dominated by NHL
articles and had lots of junk.  A year or so later, due to Mike's
impending graduation from Merrimack College, home of the College_Hockey
list, he planned for a more permanent list home.  Three years ago this
month, hosting of the list moved to the University of Maine System's
MAINE.MAINE.EDU.  You can probably still send mail to College_Hockey
(@maine.maine.edu), though I haven't tried it in years.  :-)
