Anyone else attending the NC$$ Frozen Four (or more specifically, the "Fan
Fair") in Providence win one of those "free" trips for two? I got a call the
other day saying my name had been drawn. Lucky me, you say?

Well, it turns out what I "won" was the right to join a travel club, and the
bonus for my >>paid<< membership ($398.00!!!) was two "free" trips. But wait -
$400 for 5 days in the Bahamas and 4 days in Florida with a day cruise back and
forth sounds like a bargain, you say? I would agree with you, other than the
fact that the "free" trips only involved your hotel rooms (well, sort of).
They did not include plane tickets to/from Florida (>$300/person, depending on
where you live), room and other taxes ($5 - $12 per day), port/duty fees
($69/person), food/entertainment, transportation to/from airport, miscellaneous
other charges.... I guess Noah Webster was just a little off when he defined
"free" as "costing nothing"!!!

But to make it even worse - the $400 I was being asked to pay wasn't even a
discount rate. I called the "customer support" number that the agent gave me
to ask how much a regular membership would cost and was told $398/couple! I
guess the whole thing was just a shameless scheme to get a list of names and
addresses of people to contact because as far as I am concerned, I didn't "win"
a thing! Seems more than just a little deceptive. Maybe someone in Providence
(Ron?) could pass this info on to the Chamber of Commerce. The name of the
outfit is "Sky Plus Travel" out of Blue Springs, MO, if you care to do so. I
may just send the Chamber a note myself. I already have one drafted to send to
Sky Plus.

Sorry for the lack of true hockey content, but this irked me a little...
