First congatulations to the Black Bears and Ron Mason's son-in-law. Next a few
thoughts from watching the game on ESPN.

I really thought I wouldn't care who won. I figured the Spartans were out what
did I care (as long as Michigan didn't win it all). But as soon as Maine
scored so early in the first I came the closest to being a Lake State fan I
ever would have dreamed. It tore my guts out to watch that cross bar shot in
the third. But, this was not the only reason for my sudden loyalty. As some
of you may remember I posted very shortly after the pairings for the tourney
came out that I thought that Lake State would win it all again and that
certainly didn't hurt in my partisanship (is that really a word?). In that
posting I also gave as my reason for picking Lake State that they had virtually
controlled every thing that happened against Michigan in the CCHA semi's. The
second period of the title game was much the same.

Lastly. I was also unaware of the animosity that others in and around college
hockey supposedly have toward Shawn Walsh. However, I saw it termed this way
in the Sunday Detroit News - Free Press. Walsh is very sucessful but many
don't like his P. T. Barnum approach to promoting the game. (paraphrased)
