To clear up some questions on who was in the ECAC when:

The ECAC began in 1961-62 with 28 teams. Teams were: AIC, Amherst,
Army, BC, BU, Bowdoin, Brown, Clarkson, Colby, Colgate, Connecticut,
Cornell, Dartmouth, Hamilton, Harvard, Massachusetts, MIT, Merrimack,
Middlebury, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Norwich, Princeton,
Providence, RPI, St Lawrence, Williams, Yale.

In 1963-64, Vermont joined.

In 1964-65, 14 teams left as a new ECAC division for small schools was
established. Teams that left were: AIC, Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby,
Connecticut, Hamilton, Massachusetts, MIT, Merrimack, Middlebury,
New Hampshire, Norwich, Vermont, and Williams.

After the above schools left, the ECAC was left with 15 teams in
1964-65: Army, BC, BU, Brown, Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth,
Harvard, Northeastern, Princeton, Providence, RPI, St Lawrence, and Yale.

In 1966-67, New Hampshire joined.
In 1967-68, Pennsylvania joined.
In 1973-74, Army left, dropping down to DivII.
In 1974-75, Vermont joined, moving up from DivII.
In 1978-79, Pennsylvania left.
In 1979-80, Maine joined, moving up from DivII. The three division
 setup began.
In 1980-81, Army became affiliated as an Independent, moving up from DivII.
In 1983-84, Lowell became affiliated as an Independent, moving up from
 DivII.
In 1984-85, BC, BU, Lowell, Maine, New Hampshire, Northeastern, and
Providence left to enter Hockey East. Army became sort of full-time,
playing one game against each ECAC team that counted in the standings.
 The three division setup ended.
In 1985-86, Army again played one game against each ECAC team that
 counted in the standings.
In 1986-87, Army began playing the full two games against each ECAC team.
In 1991-92, Army left, returning to DivI Indep status. Union joined,
 moving up from DivIII.

All info was gleaned from the 1989-90 College Hockey Record Manual
(except that which happened after publication, of course).
