The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for February 3, 1993:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

A couple people commented this week that picking the top eight teams was
pretty straightforward, but the nine through fifteen spots were more diffi-
cult. The composite results bear this out. There was near-unanimous agree-
ment on the top eight (of the 19 x 8 = 152 first- through eighth-place votes
cast, only four went for teams other than the top eight in the composite),
but after that, there were some pretty wide variances -- note the 60-point
dropoff between Wisconsin and Yale.

Nineteen responses, by the way, is the highest ever for the HOCKEY-L poll.

     Composite poll (19 responses):

Dropped out of Top 15: St. Cloud (#13 last week)

With only four Western responses, this week's poll was rather East-heavy,
but there's still plenty of material to start arguments with. While the two
halves of college hockey agree on who the top eight teams are, there are
some differences of opinion as to what order they should be in. Note the
positions of Harvard and BU in the composites below, as well as Michigan and
Miami.

Here is the composite for the HOCKEY-L and media polls, which once again are
very close. Boy, those media guys are getting smarter :-)

The Tadpoll and Tad-rate point out some important differences between what
the media thinks and what the ratings show. These are getting more meaning-
ful as the end of the season nears and the time for NC$$ bids gets closer.
From the Tad-rate, we see that BU may be under-rated in the polls and may
already be worthy of the #2 East seed (over Harvard) -- which makes the
Beanpot championship an even bigger game. Note also that Yale, #9 in the
Tadpoll, doesn't even appear in the Tad-rate. Perhaps the Elis are in danger
of missing out on the NC$$ tournament?
