The UAF Nanooks beat the OSU Buckeyes 4-3 after play 3 minutes of overtime
hockey. It has to be the best win for UAF so far this season. This isn't
saying much, however, as they have only played three games. :)

Things were started off with OSU's Sascha Guilbault coming in on a 2-1 with
Phil Cadman. Guilbault made a good pass across the net to Cadman who put it
up high over goaltender Fish's slide. UAF came back with a PPG about two
minutes later when some good passing by the Nanooks payed off. Don Lester
made the pass from the blueline to Dean Fedorchuk. Fedorchuk made a nice
touch pass to Jason Eckel who stuffed it in on the easy score. UAF outshot
OSU 19-9 in the first period.

In the second period, UAF went up 2-1 when Doug Raycroft took the puck in
from the blueline and skated past/through three defenders for the crowd-
pleasing backhander between the pads. It looked really good. Don Lester
got the assist but it seemed like a hometown assist (he touched it last but
didn't do anything else!). The game was evened up when Ohio State's John
Graham made the rebound goal on his second or third attempt - nobody cleared
out. Fish was flat on his back and Graham powered it underneath Fish's legs.

Thirty seconds into the third OSU broke the tie on a 2-1 break. Bryan
Riedel passed the puck up to Phil Cadman and Glenn Painter. Cadman held
the puck after faking the pass and caught Fish stick side with a hard low
shot. The game got a lot more physical as the third period went on. It
looked like all of the guys were motivated to play. Anyway, the score
was tied yet again when Doug Raycroft scored his second goal of the night
when he slid the puck between the pads of Tom Askey.

With four minutes left in regulation, John Grahan took what I thought
was a stupid penalty. After being denied the one on one shot he took the
defensemen near the net and gave him a good shove/punch to the face while
the puck was in the neutral zone. A ref was watching the entire episode
and whistled it the second Graham did it. Everyone in the stadium saw it.
This ended up to be of no consequence but it definately could have made the
difference in the game.

The Nanooks controlled overtime. The game was ended when Greg Milles
took a shot from the top of the right circle and it bounced off of Askey
to Dean Fedorchuk. Fedorchuk took a shot from about 5 feet out and Askey
managed to block it, also. Then Derby Bognar took a swipe at the puck and
it hit the net. Game over.
