Wow. That's about all I can say about New Hampshire's performance this
weekend. It's been quite a while since a Wildcat team has started out a
season like this. UNH beat RPI 4-3 on Friday night and followed up with a
5-3 victory over Boston College (previously unbeaten in Hockey East). I'll
give a short summary of each game, but I don't have box scores in front of me
so some of it may be a little vague.

On Friday, UNH completely outplayed RPI in the first 2 periods, outshooting
the Engineers something like 31-15. Still, it was RPI's weak defense and
goaltending in the 1st period that cost them. UNH took a 3-1 lead after the
1st and held it at the end of the 2nd period. RPI closed to 3-2, but UNH
came back on a David MacIntyre goal to go back up by 2 goals. RPI scored
with about 35 seconds left (Juneau finally got an assist) to round out the
scoring. RPI played *much* better after the 1st period, and was very solid
in the 3rd.

On Saturday, UNH jumped out to an early lead with 2 goals in the first 3
minutes against BC's Sandy Galuppo. BC came back to tie in the 1st with
goals from Bill Guerin and (don't know the 1st name) Pascucci. BC took a
3-2 lead in the 2nd on a powerplay goal, but New Hampshire came back to score
their own powerplay goal (by Chris Winnes) later in the 2nd period. The 3rd
period belonged to the Wildcats, as Joe Flanagan and Winnes scored to round
out the scoring. UNH completely shut down BC the last half of the 3rd
period. Freshman goaltender Jeff Levy remained unbeaten at 7-0, which is
also the Wildcats' record at home in Snively Arena. UNH is now 12-3 overall,
4-2 in Hockey East. They travel to Orono to face Maine in their last game
before the holidays.

Also from the BC game: 2 fights resulted in game disqualifications; Chebator
and Thompson for UNH, but I don't remember the BC players involved. Also
referee B. Fowkes made some very interesting calls. First, *two* BC players
(Heinze and Pascucci) were given 10 minute misconducts at the same time,
without any UNH player being penalized. Obviously, they must have said the
wrong thing to Fowkes. Second, both powerplay goals in the 2nd period were
the result of very flaky calls, but at least it was even.
