While the local fans and merchants were disappointed that RPI wouldn't
be in the NCAA's (or the ECAC's for that matter), but were hopeful that
Cornell would come to town since they are somewhat nearby and have a
large fan following. When Cornell was eliminated by Clarkson, the locals
were somewhat consoled by the fact that Clarkson was coming to town.
They're not too far away and a large number of Clarkson alumni live in
the area also. When Clarkson was eliminated, the locals were despondent.
The arena could be empty.

Today, when the seedings were announced, joy returned. Maine has a
large, fanatical following and, although it's a long drive, we hope to
see a large contingent of Black Bear fans in Albany next weekend. But
the real joy was seeing Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been here before
including the 1992 NCAA finals. The local restaurant and bar owners are
overjoyed: the Cheeseheads are coming back!!!
