Despite living in Santa Barbara, CA, I'd like to attend the Denver Cup
December 27-28. At 4pm MST on the 27th, Cornell plays Colorado
College, while Air Force takes on Denver University in the other semi
at 7. The consolation and championship are on the 28th. I'm looking
for two things:

        1) Does anyone from Southern California want to drive out
there with me? I'm not prepared to spend the $260 for one of the last
plane tickets from Los Angeles to Colorado Springs, but the drive from
Santa Barbara to Denver is doable in a day or two (1160 miles if
weather permits taking I-15 to I-70, 1360 if we have to take the
Southern route via I-40 and I-25, either way around 19/23 hours of
driving time, or at most 22:30/26:30 if you believe AAA's
overestimates). I have a relatively new car that gets good gas
mileage and could use a few thousand miles ('95 Saturn), but I really
don't want to drive such a long distance by myself. I'd prefer to
sleep in shifts and drive straight thru (I have to be in Santa Barbara
thru 4am the morning of the 26th, which gives a 35-hour window to make
the trip), but even if we stay a night each way, the cost of the trip
should be only around $150 (assuming we stay in $35 Motel-6 type
places in non-ski towns), split however many ways. And if we leave
Denver on the 29th, we should be back on the 30th, with a day to spare
before New Years' Eve. (I don't ski much myself, but I could probably
be talked into staying an extra day for that.)

        2) Would anyone in the Denver area be willing to provide some
crash space for a few rabid college hockey fans for a few nights once
we get there?

If anyone's interested in doing something a little crazy to
enjoy four fun hockey games (I'm mostly in it for Cornell, but I'd
also like to see DU's Wallenheimo in person), please email me at
<[log in to unmask]>, since I'm not currently subscribed
to Hockey-L.
