MTU TO HOST MINNESOTA IN WINTER CARNIVAL '95 THIS WEEKEND
This Year's Theme, "Great Feats of Mankind Frozen In Time"

This Week: The Michigan Technological University hockey team will host the
University of Minnesota Golden Gophers this weekend in a two-game Western
Collegiate Hockey Association series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m.
(EST) Friday (Feb. 3) and 1:35 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 4). Both contests are
part of MTU's annual Winter Carnival celebration and will be staged at the
MacInnes Student Ice Arena (4,200) on the MTU campus.

On Radio: All Michigan Tech games can be heard live on WZRK radio, 93.5 FM.
Bob Olson, the dean of broadcasters in the WCHA, is in his 24th season as
the voice of the Huskies. Volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way is back for
his fifth year providing color commentary.

The Records: MTU is 13-11-3 on the season overall and 10-10-2 in the WCHA.
The Huskies split a series at Denver last weekend. Minnesota, which split
two games at Wisconsin last weekend, is 14-10-2 in all games and 11-9-2 in
the WCHA.

The Coaches: Bob Mancini (Colorado College, 1982) is in his third year
behind the bench at MTU. He owns a 43-53-13 record at the school and in
four-plus years as a college head coach sports a 79-84-24 mark. Doug Woog
(Minnesota, 1967) is in his 10th season at the helm of the Minnesota hockey
program. He owns a 276-111-23 mark at the school.

The Series: Michigan Tech and Minnesota will meet for the 212th and 213th
times this weekend in a series that dates back to the 1921-22 campaign. The
Gophers lead the all-time series 134-68-9. Earlier this year (Nov. 19-20)
the teams split a Saturday-Sunday afternoon series in Minneapolis, Minn.
MTU took the opener in overtime by a 3-2 count (Nov. 19), before the
Gophers came back with a 6-2 victory in the series' finale.

Coach Mancini on the Minnesota Series: "Minnesota is an outstanding hockey
team with some very talented players. We had a good series with them in
November and I expect the same this weekend."

Coach Mancini on the Denver Series: "I thought we played a very good road
series. I was very proud of both of our young goaltenders and also of the
effort our players gave in front of those two young men."
