Summary:
This was a pretty physical game. Both teams got away with
some rough stuff. UIC came out slow, and goalie, Paul Spencer just
didn't react well tonight. Coach Pedrie replaced Spencer at the
beginning of the second period with Adam Lord after he gave up his
third goal. Aside from the first goal that Ferris State scored on
Lord, he played really well. The tying and winning goals were more
a breakdown on defense than an error on his part. When the tying
goal was scored, he had dove for the puck, as had one of his
teammates, but Lord couldn't get up because his teammate was on top
of him. The entire 44 seconds of the overtime was spent in the UIC
zone; they simply couldn't clear the puck out of their own zone.
UIC's third period was definitely their best period. After
being down 5-2, they scored four goals in less than 8 minutes,
three of them coming in 1:21 span of time. If they had played the
entire game the way they played that 1:21, they would have won
easily. This was close but does not break the record which was set
2/21/91 against Notre Dame. (3 in 0:55, 4 in 1:54, 5 in 2:45)
Ferris definitely outplayed UIC tonight. Tomorrow should be
an even more physical game. Pedrie will have to decide whether to
try Spencer again or go with Lord, who has started 5 out of the
last 7 (winning 3 and losing 2). This was only the second loss on
the season at the pavilion, the first being the home opener against
Bowling Green

UIC Flames Notes:
Clay Awe (D) is still out recovering from a broken finger
(against Providence).
Mike peron has a 6 game point streak going in witch he is
5-2-7.
At even strength UIC is outscoring it's opposition 71-60.
Alum report: Darryl Noren has 24 goals and 46 points for
Charlotte in the ECHL.
February 18 is the anual UIC Alumni game, which takes place
prior to UIC's match against the Lake Superior Lakers.
