VM is the abreviation for Vermont.  Right?    Buzzzz!!
 
M stands for Montis, of course!

UVM abbreviates Universitas Viridis Montis, Latin for University of the Green
Mountains.
 
I learned something here, too (found this information on http://www.uvm.edu).
I always thought it was abbreviation for French, where the V is Verte (green).
