From what I remember (and I'm old so my memory may not be all that it
should be :-)) ... Newberry and North Dakota's Archibald had been yipping
and yapping and scrapping with and at each other for most of the game.
Penalties were assessed and, instead of "going directly to jail and not
passing GO" Newberry swung by the Wisconsin bench, picked up a water
bottle, skated past the North Dakota bench, and liberally squirted the
bench with the water bottle.  The ND bench emptied itself upon Newberry,
the Wisconsin bench emptied on top of the assembled masses, and the rest
is history.  The fight did extend up into the stands, with some of
Madison's finest becoming embroiled in the brouhaha as they attempted to
restore some type of order to the stands.
