MTU Hockey Notes vs. Denver -- Saturday, October 29, 1994

PETERSON BROTHERS BOTH SCORE -- Last night marked the first time in their
collegiate career that both Brent Peterson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Kyle
Peterson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored a goal in the same game. The Huskies
are 1-0-0 when the Peterson brothers both score in the same game.

Sophomore Luciano Caravaggio (Etobicoke, Ont.), who improved to 3-0-1
last night, will go in goal again this evening. Caravaggio improved his
goals against average to 2.45 and his saves percentage to .924.
Incidentally, Caravaggio has been heavily run into in each of MTU's first
four games.

Junior center Pat Mikesch (Hancock, Mich.) continued his point streak
last night with a goal and an assist. Currently MTU's leading scorer
(3-3--6), Mikesch now has points in five straight games, dating back to the
end of last year. Incidentally, Mikesch's shorthanded goal last night was
the second of his career.

In four games this season, the Huskies have allowed just one goal in the
first period. Additionally, MTU has outshot its opponent by a combined
69-17 in the first period through the first four contests.

JASON, JASON, JASON -- Michigan Tech has three players with the first
name of Jason on its '94-95 roster, including senior defenseman and
alternate captain Jason Hanchuk (Nepean, Ont.), junior defenseman Jason
Wright (Thunder Bay, Ont.), and freshman forward Jason Prokopetz
(Esterhazy, Sask.).

The seven newest members of the MTU Sports Hall of Fame will be
introduced between the first and second period tonight. The group includes
former hockey players Rick Best, John Kosiancic, and George Hill; football
player Robert Hunt; men's basketball player Bill Massey; and boosters Bob
Hauswirth and Bob Olson.

The 3-0-1 start by the Huskies marks the best ever start by a Bob
Mancini-coached team. Mancini is in his 5th year as a collegiate head
coach.

Freshman defenseman Dave Dupont (Cumberland, R.I.) gained an assist last
night. Dupont has a point in three of his first four collegiate games. He
played for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League a
year ago.

Senior center Travis Seale (Mississauga, Ont.) has at least one point in
three of MTU's first four games. Seale had an assist last night.

Senior right wing Randy Stevens (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), still nursing
a shoulder injury, is questionable for tonight's game. Stevens will skate
in warm ups before a decision is made. If he cannot play, sophomore John
Kisil (Canton, Mich.) will take his place.

Freshman Andy Sutton (Kingston, Ont.) will be in the lineup for the first
time tonight. He replaces Craig Perrett (Calgary, Alta.), who was
disqualified for fighting last night.

MTU's women's volleyball team, ranked third in the nation, breezed past
GLIAC foe Ferris State earlier today, 15-6, 15-3, 15-3. Senior outside
hitter Erika Wade (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) was named Superior Player of
the Match. The MTU football team lost a 30-19 decision to seventh-ranked
Ferris State today. The Huskies led 13-10 at the half, but were unable to
overcome a powerful Bulldog team.

Michigan Tech is 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the WCHA entering play
tonight.

If the Huskies can win tonight, they will be undefeated through their
first five games of the season. Not since 1972-73 has a MTU team been
undefeated after five contests. Incidentally, in '72-73, MTU won its first
eight contests.

Michigan Tech has outshot its opponent in three of the first four
contests. The Huskies outshot their opponent just seven times in 45 games a
year ago.

MTU has scored at least one power play goal in each of its first four
games. The Huskies enter play tonight with a 26.1% success ratio on the
power play (6-23).

Michigan Tech's shorthanded goal last night was its first of the season.
MTU's first shorthanded effort last season came eight games in.

MTU's crowd of 2,591 was well short of the 2,948 that watched the Huskies
in their WCHA home opener last year against St. Cloud State.

Last night's empty-net goal was MTU's first of the season. Last year the Huskies tallied just two empty
netters, with the first coming 20 games into the season.

Michigan Tech will play Northern Michigan in a home-and-home WCHA series
next weekend. Friday's (Nov. 4) game will be staged here in Houghton, while
Saturday's (Nov. 5) affair is set for the Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

Michigan Tech goes for its first sweep of the season here tonight. The
Huskies have swept their first home WCHA series in each of the last two
seasons (over SCSU last year, 6-1 and 3-2; and over CC in '92-93, 4-2 and
6-1).
