I asked Coach Mason about this situation yesterday after reading Neil
Koepke's column to see if I could find out what is going on. The 2-2
referee-linesmen may be used experimenatlly in some non-conference games
early in the season but will not be used in any Conference games. The
CCHA coaches would prefer to stay with the 1 ref, 2 linesmen but believe
standardization is more important than holding out for their preferred
system, so the 2 ref 1 linesman arrangement will be used in most games,
including all Conference games. I got the impression that the 2-2 will
not be used very much, and only in early season so they can look at it.

Tonight, the end of the first week of practice, will be the Green and
White game. I didn't ask the specific question, but I expect to see
2 Rs and 1 L.

Item 2. The Michigan State captains for this year are Brian Smolinski
and Wes McCauley. It appears they will be on the same team in the Green
and White tonight. Also looks like a couple changes from the Roster
that was released by the CCHA which Keith Instone reported, but nothing
significant.

Might learn a little more this noon at the first Blue Line Luncheon.
