Bowling Green came into tonight's game against the Lake Superior State Lakers
with a grudge to settle. This was the only team in this year's season to
dominate (and humiliate) the Falcons. The score was evened tonight when the
Falcons managed to take this very important game in the battle for 2nd place in
a 3-2 victory. Stopping the red-hot Lakers was a key in the evaluating the
Falcons' playoff potential.

This game was suspensful and exciting right up to the end - college hockey the
way it should be played. The two teams are well matched and played clean,
fast, skillful hockey - not without mistakes - but certainly a joy to watch.

The Falcons were to start out first with a goal at 3:14 of the 1st period when
Jason Clark puts away a classic back door shot from the left side. The Lakers
were to answer back with a power play goal (with 2 seconds remaining),
outmanuvering Falcon goalie Bob Petrie on a shot from Danny Galarneau.

The 2nd period saw no scoring.

The 3rd period looks much like a repeat of the first - BG's Dave Faulkner
skates in and takes a shot from the right side which goes high over the net.
Faulkner skates around behind the net, collects his own shot, skates around
left and fires again - scoring at 1:55. After the scoreless 2nd period, BG
fans thought this might be the winning shot, but the Lakers strike back with a
score of their own at 3:49 on a shot from Wayne Strachan. This game seemed
destined for overtime until Jason Clark manages to bury one for BG with 1:50
remaining in the game. Lake Superior calls its time out and plays most of the
remainder of the game with Grahame on the bench in favor of the extra attacker
- but the Falcons are to hold on for the 3-2 win.

I will always say, the successful teams find a way to pull out the big wins at
the end. Tonight, Bowling Green showed they are capable of doing this.
Tonight's win certainly heads us into the stretch the right way. Bob Petrie
looked sharp in goal tonight, leaving us with two good possibilities in net for
each game. The scoring tonight coming from the non-Holzinger line also leaves
us in good stead for teams thinking they can stop us by shutting down that
line.
