Some questions re: comments during today's USA-Italy Olympic contest:

1) At one point the commentators mentioned that a goal *cannot* be scored
by a team into its own net when its goalkeeper has been pulled during
a delayed penalty situation (such as the 1986 RPI-Cornell situation
described here on HOCKEY-L last week). Is this a standard International
Rule ?? Do the World Junior Tournaments play by the same rules ??

2) I knew that there are no overtime periods during qualifying play, but
was unaware that ties in the medal round are to be decided by *penalty
shots* following a scoreless 10-minute overtime period. This introduces
the worst element of NC$$ and World Cup soccer into International Hockey,
and I think it *stinks*. Was this rule instituted as part of the single-
elimination medal round introduced this year, or have I just be very
    inattentive during past Olympics ??
