Jayson Moy was looking for confirmation, and Brian Morris wanted
to know where the rest of the awards were. From the official ECAC
release:

"Joel Prpic of St. Lawrence University was voted Best Defensive Forward
by the league head coaches. The 6-6, 215 pound senior center was third
in the voting last year and edged out Cornell's senior captain Matt
Cooney this year. A Boston Bruins draft choice, Prpic hails from Sudbury,
Ontario.

The honor of Best Defensive Defenseman is shared by Matt Pagnutti of Clarkson
University and Andrew Will of Union College. Pagnutti, a senior who is also
from Sudbury, Ontario, is a main reason the Knights enter the post-season
on a nine-game winning streak (and 15 of their last 16). Will, a senior
captain from Willowdale, Ontario, led the Dutchmen to their most ever
Division I wins (18). Clarkson and Union also tied for fewest goals
allowed in the 22 ECAC League contests (54).

All three players will be presented their awards at the ECAC Awards Banquet
in Lake Placid, New York on Thursday evening, March 13."

Remaining Award Announcement Schedule:

--Friday, March 7 (Quarterfinals): 1996-97 ECAC All-Rookie Team
--Thursday, March 13 (Lake Placid Banquet): All-Star Teams and Player,
Rookie, Goalie and Coach of the Year Awards.

Voting for Best Defensive Forward:

Prpic, 17 points
Cooney, 15 points
J.F. Houle (Clarkson) 14 points
Dave Debusschere (Colgate) 8 points
Jay Prentice (Union) 8 points
Matt Stelljes (Vermont) 8 points
Syl Apps III (Princeton) 3 points

Voting for Best Defensive Defenseman:

Pagnutti 22 points
Will 22 points
Jon Sorg (Vermont) 9 points
John Dance (Colgate) 8 points
Chris Aldous (Rensselaer) 4 points
Jeff Burgoyne (Cornell) 4 points
Steve Shirreffs (Princeton) 3 points

(Each coach nominates one player from his team, all coaches vote from
nominees but cannot vote for their own players).

My predictions for All-Rookie team:

J.R. Prestifilippo, Harvard, G (2.90, 90.2)
Dominique Auger, Princeton, D (3-12-15)
Pete Gardiner, Rensselaer, F (6-13-19)
Jeff Hamilton, Yale, F (7-11-18)
Ryan Moynihan, Cornell, F (4-13-17)
Jeff Brow, Yale, F (7-7-14)

The first five are locks, the last (Brow) could go to any one of
several players. BTW, Tim Taylor did not nominate Hamilton for
ECAC Rookie of the Year. Go figure. He was second among rookies
in league scoring (18 points to Gardiner's 19). Auger led all
freshmen defensemen with 15 points (and set a Princeton record
for points by a rookie defenseman with 22 to date), Prestifilippo
set a Harvard record for appearances and saves by a freshman goalie
and is about to set the school record for saves in a season.

Player of the Year nominees are Paul DiFrancesco (St. Lawrence),
Mike Harder (Colgate), Eric Healey (Rensselaer), Trevor Koenig
(Union), Tim Thomas (Vermont) and Todd White (Clarkson).
