From an article by John Gilbert in the Star Tribune 10/11/95:

Reggie Berg (frosh forward) has been given the okay to play
this weekend.

New rule stings Tech
"The Gophers pushed aggressively to get the WCHA to toughen
its suspension rule for disqualifications, and the league was
given the right to experiment with the rules.

While NCAA calls for an immediate suspension, plus one additional
game for a disqualification, with an additional game added on for
each additional disqualification, the WCHA will go from a one-game
suspension for t he first infraction to a three-game for the second
and the rest of the season for the third.

Another wrinkle is that the suspensions are not confined to the
league only, and could affect teams in NCAA play as well.

It also means that disqualifications are carried over from exhibition
games. Michigan Tech is painfully aware of this.

Jarkko Ruutu, a talented freshman winger from Finland, was jumped
from behind by a player during an exhibition game against Laurentian,
a Canadian college last weekend.

"The guy charged across the ice at Ruutu, then elbowed him, then
punched him," Michigan Tech coach Bob Mancini said. "Ruutu turned
around and threw one punch in retaliation, with his glove on."

No matter. It is a disqualification, so Ruutu was ejected from the
game and will have to sit out Friday's game, causing Mancini to
juggle his second line." <end quote>

If Keith Instone's info is correct on the rash of suspensions at
Colorado College....this will be a REALLY interesting year. :-(
