From a player's point of view, I thought that Lake Placid was an
excellent choice. It's not just the AD's and the press that get treated
well; my entire family had a wonderful time exploring the sights and the
surrounding area when not watching games at the rink.
As players, the entire atmosphere is enjoyable because everyone is in
town for the same event. It's nice to be able to walk down the streets of
Lake Placid in your team's warm-up jacket and have people stop you on the
street and talk to you about hockey--no matter where they've travelled from
or what team they are there to cheer for.
It's an informal, intimate place that gives more importance to the
tournament by being in a small location. Last year we were in Placid for
the ECAC's and then went to Albany for the NCAA Regionals, and I can
honestly say that I have much fonder memories of the former. I sincerely
hope that future players and their families will have the opportunity to
enjoy the ECAC tournament in Lake Placid for years to come.
