Clarkson shook off a sluggish 3rd period to rout the Elmira
Soaring Eagles, 8-3.

The first period was a penalty fest. There might have been 3 minutes,
tops, of full strength on both sides. Elmira's Kirkpatrick
took a penalty :39 in and Dave Seitz converted on the PPG, 1:13
in. Elmira scored a pair of power play goals, themselves and
actually had a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd period. Referees
Mike Noeth and Gerard Toner called a total of 12 penalties in
the first period alone.

3:28 into the 2nd period, Seitz got his 2nd of the night
from Murphy on a shot that went right through the legs of
Elmira goalie Jamie Cuff. Less than 1 minute later, Seitz
got the hat trick as he tipped a Kevin Murphy pass by
Cuff on a 2-on-1 break. Patrice Robitaille scored a pair
of goals and JF Houle added another before the period ended.

Marko Tuomainen added a power play goal and Chris deRuiter
scored later in the 3rd but Elmira's Randy Murphy scored the
final marker on a power play goal. All 3 of Elmira's goals
were scored on the power play. Potsdam native Kerry Blanchard
saw, what I believe to be his first collegiate varsity action
as he played the final 14 minutes of the game.

The star of the game, without a doubt, for Elmira was goaltender
Jamie Cuff. Cuff deserves combat pay and a half after facing
57 shots. He made 49 saves many spectacular. His dazzling
glove hand may have prevented Clarkson from reaching the
dozen mark. Clarkson's Dave Seitz got what I have to believe
is his first career hat trick. In his collegiate debut, freshman
goalie Dan Murphy did not have to make many tough saves, although
he did stop one breakaway. Clarkson visits Boston College next weekend.

THREE STARS
1) Dave Seitz, Clarkson
2) Patrice Robitaille, Clarkson
3) Jamie Cuff, Elmira
