Some tidbits of information for fans of Miami and the C.C.H.A.

The Redskins enjoy playing the name game as they say goodbye to "Gwoz'
and hello to "Mazz"! That's Mark P. Mazzoleni, the newly-hired head
coach for Miami University.

Mazzoleni comes to Oxford from the University of Minnesota where he was an
assistant coach and Recruiting Coordinatorfor the Gophers under Doug Woog.
While at Minnesota, he has assisted the Gophers in the phinal phour round
of the 1993-94 Div. I tournament, and the quarterfinal rounds in 1992-93
and 1991-92. The Gophers captured the W.C.H.A. regular season championship
in 1992, and were league tourny champs the last two years.

Mazzoleni was a four-year letterman at Michigan State, 1976-80, and was
named Most Valuable Freshman for the Spartans as well as All-Academic
First Team in the W.C.H.A. his Senior year.

In 1981, he was hired at the University of Illinois at Chicago as Assistant
Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. He served UIC until 1985 when he was
named head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

At UWSP, Mazzoleni guided the Pointers to three National Championships,
1988-89, 1989-90, and 1990-91 at the Division III level. His record as
head coach was 140-52-10. In part because of his exceptional record of
graduating his student-athletes, he was appointed Director of Athletics at
UWSP in 1990.

Miami fans are looking forward to Mazzoleni's aggressive but disciplined
style of play. His offensive strategies include a quick transition game
and the use of a four-man attack. Defensively, he emphasizes aggressive
forechecking. The 'Skins should continue to focus on an uptempo game
featuring the speedy skating of the recruits from the Gwozdecky era.

See you at Goggin Arena!
