I guess I qualify under the hockey part. I was a AHAUS Level 3 ref
for a number of years. For the most part, refs will make calls, and
all the complaining in the world isn't going to change it. People
say that hind-sight is 20-20. In a game, as far as I could tell, my
calls were technically correct, but could be judged as "cheap" to
some people. This would be the case in the "slashing" by McDonald.
McDonald came around with his stick to hit someone who just delived
a clean check. If the person had been closer to McDonald, would it
have made a difference? I doubt it. He retailiated with a cheap
stick move, and got 2 mintutes for it. Then he persisted to challange
the refs decision. Bad move. I've never said, "Aw shucks, you were
right. You didn't hit him that hard. Silly me."

There are a few times I've lost it with a ref, but for the most part
I correct fans in my seat area as to why our team got a penalty or
the other didn't. My friends say that can be annoying. :)

MTU fans have a charm for being annoying at hockey games. Our pep
band is certainly no exception. Year before last at the GLI in
Detroit, Univerity of Michigan (UofM) was playing, none other than, the
University of Maine (UofM). The UofMich fans would start chanting that
ever annoying "let's go blue" to which we would chant, in step with them,
"they're both blue." I found this to be a little funny. Also during that
game the MTU fight song was sung a number of times. All in good fun, so
not too many flames.
