The problem with Dave Spehar and Chris Locker is that they both were very 1
dimentional
"Big Fish" in a relatively small pond. Both of these players would have
benefitted greatly from leaving a very controlling high school coach early
and moving to the USHL.
Dave Spehar has never been anything more than a marginal Division 1 player
and to this author not a disapointment , as I believe he has actually
developed as expected and has just reached his rather limited potential.
CHris Locker is another very 1 dimentional player who was not mature enough
athletically or socially to compete at the division 1 level.
Woog's third recruiting strike is Johny Pohl. His skating ability is so
poor he can barely get from one end to the other in a shift. Without the
puck anywhere except within 25 feet of the net, he is absolutely worthless.
But in Woog's defense, he was Mr. Hockey Minnesota. Another very 1
dimentional limited potential player that epitomizes the mediocrity of
Minnesota High School hockey and the gophers.
