The season ended tonight for the Skating Saints of St. Lawrence. They lost to
Yale 4-1 but the score does not indicate how close the game was. It was tied
at 1-1 after the first period and Yale led 2-1 after two and well into the
third. Late in the third (around 6 minutes remaining) Yale got two very quick
goals.
I didn't hear the shots on goal for the third period but after 2 periods the
shots were almost even. Yale had 1 more shot - it was something like 18 on
Westlund and 19 on Heffler.
I am terribly sorry to see the Saints' season end. They had really improved
their game and were playing very well this weekend. They did not go quietly.
I will most definately miss the seniors. Paul DiFrancesco has been a joy to
watch for 4 years as well as Derek Ladouceur, Mark McGrath and Alex Gordon.
Paul DiFrancesco did get another assist this evening. He holds the record for
most career assists at SLU.
Good luck to Yale in the NCAAs. I hope the ECAC teams make a good showing.
