I didn't get a chance to watch BGSU this weekend. I wanted
to for the very reason everyone has pointed out to me;\
I wanted to see them play in conference, for real (not for a holiday
tourney). Also, I was so completely impressed with
Brian Holzinger during the Showdown that I wanted to watch him again.
As I've told some friends of mine who couldn't make the
tourney (are you reading ths john wilson?), he is amazing!
I realize that coaches tend to mess around with new line
during holiday tourneys (UW doesn't have this option,
they took to much heat losing to BU two years ago). Still,
there seemed to many defensive breakdowns either at the blue line or worse yet
near the crease. BGSU's goalie had a remarkable game, he made
some stops early in the 3rd period that I thought was going to
take the wind out of Wisconsin's sail. If I remember correctly,
he was the all-tourney goalie.
The biggest impression I got from the games was BGSU's offensive
power. They were unfortunate enough to run into a hot goalie
(Daubenspeck). When I was looking at BG's line-up I didn't
notice a large number of freshmen or sophmores. So this
begs the question, who was the coach last year, and
why wasn't this team better?
So, escuse me for the poor coaching remark, I tend
to over state things. On the other hand, I saw a little
too much selfishness to be waived off as only line experimenting.
But then again, BGSU isn't used to winning (recently anyhow),
so team work may develope during the second half. We'll
see come tourney time.
