Since some of you are interested in why Native Americans don't like names
such as Chiefs or Fightin Sioux for teams, my boss brought me in a book
that contains an article that she says is the best explanation she's read.
The article is in a book called, _The American Indian and the Media_.
Minneapolis, MN: National Conference of Christians & Jews, Inc., 1991.
"Pigskin Mascots: A Seasonal Insult," by Tim Giago (Nanwica Kciji). It
focuses more on the Washington Redskins and the St. John's Redmen, but I
suppose the reasoning would be the same.
If anybody would like a copy of the article, send me your address and I'll
snail mail it to you.
