The Cornell "Ref ----- sheep" cheer and its possible influence on children
has been mentioned. Well, for the Clarkson-Cornell game my friend Andy
(Clarkson '88) and I used his advisor's tickets and sat on the faculty-
staff-townie side instead of standing on the student side (plus, the con-
tinuation of Andy's life was more likely over there!). The man behind us
said to the woman next to him "What are they saying?". The woman said, "I
think they're saying 'the ref loves sheep'". Close, but not quite! So maybe
the kids can't understand the students either. I went to a women's game once,
and I think that is a good alternative. One, it is free. Two, the kids can
run around in the mostly empty stands if they get bored. Three, they won't
hear any rude cheers. Four, they won't see goon hockey.
