Commentary:

MTU came out ready play, surprising Denver with a goal 22 seconds into the
game. MTU applied early pressure deep left of the Denver crease allowing
Machacek to score in the confusion. Throughout the game both sides had
excellent back checking. Denver was robbed of several fine shots by Jamie
Ram. In one case, Ram was flat on his back after stopping a shot. The
rebound squirted out in front and was quickly hammered back high towards
the net. Jamie stick his glove high into the air snatching away a sure
goal. On a one minute 5 on 3 powerplay opportunity, Denver failed to break
the defensive line of MTU. Finally, Denver's Laaksonen worked the puck in
front of the crease and Gunther snapped it home at 14:49 to tie the score.

In the second period, MTU again came out on a powerplay scoring with 21
seconds of the period gone. However, Denver's Ricci came back off the
faceoff and worked the puck to Jamie Ram's right. With a wrist shot,
the puck flopped around Ram. Stopping the shot, Jamie inadvertently lost
the puck and knocked it back into the goal for Denver's last score of
the game. Wallinheimo attempted to assist the officials in calling the
game; however, they took offense at this, overturning Wallinheimo's
call of an icing. On the very next icing, Wallinheimo put his nose down
to the ice on the end line and signalled icing as the puck crossed the
line. This time, the referee abided by Wallinheimo's call. Late in the
period LeBel circled around from behind the left side of the crease and
was fed the puck from Brent Peterson. LeBel quickly put the rubber by
Wallinheimo on the powerplay. With only 15 seconds left in the period,
Perrault found the puck for a score in a scrum from about three feet
in front of the Denver goal.

In the third period, Denver changed its goalie. In a beautiful breakaway,
Kisil dribbled the puck from MTU's zone through the center picking up a
Denver defensman. Immediately after crossing the Denver blueline, Kisil
passed to Figgy streaking to Kisil's left. THis froze the defenseman
allowing Figgy to slapped home an impressive shot. With 4:42 remaining
in the period, Denver pulled its goalie. MTU's Peca scored on open net
goal.

This weekend's sweep was impressive. All four MTU lines scored in
every possible way. Denver came to Houghton not respecting MTU's
potential and it cost them four points. Meanwhile, MTU's young players
gained the confidence to shoot the puck at the net.

Now we go on the raod for two weeks. We have yet to win a road game.
North Dakota had been a very tough team for us but we need to continue
our past week's performance. It is still possible for the last place
Huskies to get a home playoff berth. Never give up hope!
