Moving the hockey rink off-campus would be a serious mistake. Part of the
charm of attending a small college is its sense of community. Attendance at
athletic events only serve to foster this feeling. No other school in our
conference has an off-campus rink. Not only would this serve as an obstacle to
recruiting, but it would significantly change the collegial character of home
hockey games. This alone should be enough to deter any college from
considering such a move. Add to this security concerns and logistics and the
math works in favor of keeping Achilles. Union's program still has a long way
to go in Div. I, it would be shame to change the character of the school just
to benefit a local businessman.
