GOPHER NOTES: In Friday's game against the Canadian National Team, the Gophers
lost the lead with 8 seconds left in the thrid period. The Canadians went on
to win in the overtime. Saturday's game was a shootout, in which the Gophers
led by two goals at various points of the first two periods but finally ran
out of gas in the third. Both games were played at a fast and furious pace,
and the Gophers were able to keep up to the surprise of the Canadian Nationals
and the delight of the fans in Mariucci Arena. It hurt to lose both games,
especially the one on Friday, but the Gophers proved that they are capable of
skating with anybody.
The Canadian National Team plays Wisconsin tonight in Madison.
