Hi --
I am a librarian who was recently asked by a library patron about a
Falcons hockey team which played during the 1945-46 season. It seems she
has three autographed black-and-white photographs of players in Falcons
hockey uniforms (at least one of them holding a Northland hockey stick).
According to their signatures, these players are Jimmy Wilson, Hank
D'Amore and George Kelly. Jimmy Wilson's number ends in a 6 -- she
doesn't know if it's just 6 or 16, 26, etc. One of them has written
"45-46" next to his name, which makes her think these were from the
1945-46 season.
She had thought they were with a professional or semi-pro team. I found
that the Detroit Red Wings were know as the Falcons from the 1930/31
season through the 1932/33 season, but could find no Falcons teams from
the '40s.
She is now open to the idea that it may be a college (or "community"
team). I have found at least three colleges with hockey teams named the
Falcons: Fitchburg State, UW-River Falls, and Bowling Green State
University.
Does anyone out there recognize the names of these three fellows or have
suggestions on other Falcons teams from the '40s? I do not subscribe to
either list, so please respond directly to me.
Thanks for your help!
Paul
