CCHA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK:  Bowling Green sophomore center Brett Harkins has
been named CCHA Player-of-the-Week for the last weekend in October.
 
Harkins, a 6-2, 165 lb. native of Strongsville, Ohio had three assists in the
Falcons 9-3 win at Ohio State Friday.  In BGSU's 5-3 win at home Saturday,
Harkins recorded two goals and assisted on two others.  His two staked BGSU to
a 2-0 lead midway through the first period.  He then assisted on the Falcons'
next two goals helping BG to a 4-1 lead.  Harkins was a member of the 1989-90
CCHA All-Rookie team and was a June 1989 draft pick of the New York Islanders.
 
This is the first time that he has been named CCHA P-O-T-W.  His brother Todd,
earned CCHA Player-of-the-Week honors last year while playing for Miami.

                                 SERIES CAPSULES
 
Bowling Green vs. Michigan State, November 2 at Munn Ice Arena (6,255) and
November 3 at BGSU Ice Arena (5,000).  Friday's contest will be aired LIVE by
PASS at 7:30, preceeded by the CCHA Digest.  Coaches:  BGSU - Jerry York
(284-169-21 in his 12th year at BGSU, 409-256-24 in his 19th year overall).
MSU - Ron Mason (323-141-18 in his 12th year at MSU, 612-251-32 in his 25th
year overall).  Series:  The Spartans have a 29-13-2 lead having won three and
tied one last season vs. BGSU.  MSU is 7-1-1 in the last nine meetings.  Last
Meeting:  Jan. 20 at MSU, the teams skated to a 4-4 (OT) tie.  Last Meeting at
BGSU:  Jan. 19, the Spartans won 5-4 behind two goals apiece from Dwayne
Norris and Kip Miller.  Jason Muzzatti made 64 saves in the two games.
 
Ferris State at Michigan, November 2-3 at Yost Ice Arena (8,100).  Coaches:
FSU - Bob Mancini (1-2-3 in his first year).  MICH - Red Berenson (112-124-12
in his seventh season).  Series:  Michigan holds a narrow 19-14-1 advantage.
'M' won all four games last year outscoring the Bulldogs 20-11.  Last Meeting:
Jan. 19-20 at FSU, with the Wolverines sweeping FSU 5-2 and 6-5.  Ted Kramer
paced Michigan with three goals in the series.  Last Meeting at MICH:  Nov.
10-11, 1989, the Wolverines won both contests, 5-4 and 4-0, as Don Stone had
three goals in the second game as Tim Keough recorded the shutout.
 
Lake Superior at UIC, November 2-3 at UIC Pavilion (8,802).  Coaches:  LSSU -
Jeff Jackson (4-1-1 in his first year).  UIC - Larry Pedrie (0-6-0 in his first
year).  Series:  The Lakers hold a commanding 25-7-2 lead in the all-time
series.  LSSU won three of four meetings last year.  Last Meeting:  Jan. 12-13
at LSSU, UIC won 4-2 Friday, before LSSU rebounded for a 3-1 win on Saturday.
Last Meeting at UIC:  Nov. 3-4, 1989, LSSU won twice by the scores of 8-2 and
5-2.  Rick Judson had three goals in four games for UIC, while Darrin Madeley
went 2-0 with 43 saves and three goals allowed for LSSU.
 
Miami vs. Ohio State, November 2 at OSU Ice Rink (1,410) and November 3 at
Goggin Ice Arena (2,200).  Coaches:  Miami - George Gwozdecky (15-26-5 in his
second season at Miami, 82-56-7 overall in his fifth year).  OSU - Jerry Welsh
(291-262-39 in his 16th year).  Series:  The Buckeyes have a 30-14-3 lead,
although Miami won three of four last year.  Last Meeting:  Feb. 20 at Miami,
the Redskins won 5-4 behind 42 saves by Mark Michaud.  Last Meeting at OSU:
Feb. 16, Miami won 8-4 scoring four goals in each the second and third
periods.
 
Western Michigan at Merrimack, November 2-3 at S. Peter Volpe Complex (3,617).
Coaches:  WMU - Bill Wilkinson (162-155-19 in his ninth year).  MERR - Ron
Anderson (149-88-6 in his eighth year in North Andover, MASS).  Series:  The
Broncos won the only prior meeting 6-5 (OT) in a 1978 Semi-Final game of the
Cornell Holiday Festival Tournament.

Russell notches 100th point:  Michigan State senior center Kerry Russell
recorded one assist Friday marking his 100th career point as a Spartan.
 
WMU penalty killing takes over CCHA top spot:  The Broncos killed 12 of 14
(.857) Michigan State power play opportunities this past weekend.  WMU leads
the CCHA with an .806 killing percentage, just ahead of LSSU's .805.
 
BGSU's offense hits high gear:  After scoring 15 goals in the first four
games, the Falcons tallied 14 goals this past weekend against Ohio State.
Brett Harkins (2-5-7) paced the BGSU outburst, with additional firepower
coming from Peter Holmes (2-3-5), Ken Klee (0-5-5), Matt Ruchty (3-1-4) and
Martin Jiranek (2-2-4).
 
Michigan's top line - leading the pack:  The Wolverines top offensive line of
David Roberts (1990 CCHA Rookie of the Year), Mark Ouimet and Denny Felsner
(1990 CCHA Honorable Mention selection) have scored 18 goals (of Michigan's
44) this year and assisted on 21 others for 39 points.
 
First collegiate starts end with mixed results:  Three CCHA freshmen
goaltenders made their first collegiate starts over the weekend.  UIC's Jeff
Featherstone started Saturday following two relief appearances.  He blanked
Michigan the first period, allowed three goals in the middle stanza and two
power play goals in the final 20-minutes.  FSU's Craig Lisko got the starting
nod Friday and left after surrendering five goals on 12 shots during the first
period.  On Saturday the Bulldogs started Pat Mazzoli, who made 17 saves in
FSU's 3-3 overtime tie with Miami.
 
Muzzatti sets MSU all-time win record:  MSU's 3-2 win Saturday at Western
Michigan raised Jason Muzzatti's career record to 77-24-9 (.741) moving him
past Norm Foster ('83-87) school record of 76 victories.
 
Injuries around the CCHA:  Ohio State has lost blueliner Glenn Painter
indefinitely with an arm injury, while MSU defenseman Doug Garbarz suffered a
fractured hand in Friday's game in East Lansing.  Spartan forward Peter White
missed the MSU series with the Broncos with a back sprain.  He is expected to
return to action this weekend against Bowling Green.
 
CCHA Power Plays clicking often:  Through the first three weekends of CCHA
play, the league power play pct. is .256 (67-262) while allowing just three
shorthanded goals.
