>It is reported in both Twin Cities papers (Star Tribune & St. Paul Pioneer
>Press) today (5/6/94) that 3 finalists have been recommended for the North
>Dakota head ccoaching position:
>
>Mark Mazzoleni-Minnesota assistant and former head coach at UW Stevens Point,
>where he coached them to three Div III titles.
>
>Paul Pooley - Lake Superior State assistant
>
>Dean Blais - International Falls (MN) H.S. coach, former North Dakota and US
>Olymoic assistant. Also coached Rosea to 1991 Minn. HS championship.
It has been over a week and I haven't seen anything new posted on the North
Dakota coaching position. Has anyone heard anything? No one I have talked
too in the Soo is even aware that Pooley is a finalist for the job.
When I was a senior in High school, I got a chance to "spend the day as the
LSSU Hockey coach" thru Sault High's Government Day program. As Jackson was
out of town at the time I spent the day with coach Pooley. He is a very down
to earth, easy to talk to guy, and I still see him every once in a while when
I am home from school.
Here is some backround on him, if anyone is interested. He played his college
hockey at Ohio State, where I believe he was an All-American. He was also an
assistant coach there until coming to Lake State before the '92 season.
Also, in the FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH DEPARTMENT: Pooley's wife Kelly delivered
their first child, Scott Rodney, while the Lakers were playing the national
title game. Two big wins for the Pooley's that night! :-)
