TEAM
Two Gopher forwards, freshman Craig Johnson and sophomore Trent Klatt, were
selected to play for the U.S. junior national team at the World Junior
Tournament in Saskatchewan in late December. "It should be fun and I'm really
looking forward to it," said Johnson, a center from Hill-Murray who has four
goals and 10 assists in 14 games. Klatt who has seven goals and three assists
is a wing from Osseo.
Several other Minnesotans are on the squad chosen by USA Hockey. Defenseman
Brett Hauer (Richfield) of Minnesota-Duluth and Kris Imes (Birchdale) of Maine
were invited, along with forwards Chris Gotziaman (Roseau) of North Dakota and
Derek Plante (Cloquet) of Minnesota-Duluth.
The rest of the team: goalies Mike Dunham of Maine and Matt Heinke of
Providence; defensmen Ken Klee of Bowling Green, Scott Lachance of Boston
University, Pat Neaton of Michigan, Brent Brekke of Western Michigan, Aaron
Miller of Vermont and Ian Moran of Belmont Hills (Mass) prep school, and
forwards Doug Weight of Lake Superior State, Bill Lindsay of the Tri-City
(Wash) junior team, Jason Zent of Wisconsin, Ted Drury of Harvard, Kent Salfi
of Maine,Keith Tkachuk of Boston University, Rob Woodward of Michigan State,
and Mike Doers of the Madison (Wis) junior team.
Kevin Constantine will coach the team assisted by Bob O'Connor and Walt Kyle on
an all-Minnesota staff. The team will assemble Dec. 17 in Colorado Springs.
