Thank you to everyone who sent me information over the weekend.
Unfortunately, somehow all of your mail got held up and I
didn't get anything until it all suddenly rolled in on Monday!
It figures. Still, thanks to everyone who sent me stuff or
who posted to the list; I was very interested to see what was
going on elsewhere. And to hear that Pierre is alive and well.
Actually, that was just one Hockey East coach's opinion that
Pierre should be picked up by HE - as far as I know the league
never approached him. Besides, after every game HE coaches fill
out an evaluation on the game officials and send it to the league,
so that might put Pierre on thin ice right away. :-)
Oh yes, the radio show went well. We just talked for about 15
minutes on all sorts of subjects - previewing Merrimack (along
with my plea for fans to come out to the games), previewing
Hockey East, what was happening around the rest of Division I.
I wanted to let the fans know what was going on, and I think
we did a good job of that. I thank everyone for all the tidbits
you send out on your teams. They are useful and interesting.
Here are all the scores and standings I have for this weekend. I
posted some of this to r.s.hockey in reply to a request. My
standings are now done automatically via a program I wrote (thanks
to Rob Springall for the inspiration with his NHL schedule program).
It goes through my master score file and generates league standings.
Quick notes on the following: Bill, the PC-Ottawa score is listed
below (8-3). Also, someone said that UNH might not have played
at Air Force Saturday night. The game was played, and UNH
won, also by the score of 8-3.
No details on PC-RPI, sorry. BC looked very good against Vermont.
Merrimack probably should have taken two from Western Michigan,
but then again, Western is probably saying the opposite.
Northeastern got lambasted on the North Country Trip, 9-5 and 9-2.
Where is that veteran defense?
Interesting that after scoring just 3 goals a game last year (and
giving up 6), Merrimack, through 3 games, is averaging more goals
than any Hockey East team except Boston University. The Warriors
have scored 19 goals in 3 games. Of course, they've also given
up 18. Warrior leading scorers are sophomore Dan Gravelle (3-5--8)
and freshman Rob Atkinson (3-4--7). With a brilliant performance
in shutting the door on WMU for the last half of the game, Yannick
Gosselin looks to have re-earned the starting job. This could be
an interesting year at the Mack.
