Merrimack junior center Teal Fowler was named as Hockey East's Player of the
Week for last week. Can you believe I kept forgetting over two days to send
this out? :-) Fowler had a hat trick against BU last Tuesday in a 6-5 loss,
Merrimack's only game of the week. He is the team's second-leading goal
scorer with 12.
Fowler is only Merrimack's second-ever HE PotW in the team's 2 1/2 years in
the league. The other one was goalie Steve D'Amore, who made 37 saves last
December to beat BC, 6-5.
Both players were given their awards during abbreviated schedules right
before finals.
It is nice to see Teal recognized, he's a hard-working, exciting player, but
I am surprised he got the nod over UNH's Joe Flanagan. Flanagan had a hat
trick and almost single-handedly brought his team back against UMass-Lowell,
then he set up the winner in the 5-4 game.
